Purchases and other business transactions in Georgia are made in Georgia’s national currency Lari (GEL). The mountainous region lacks currency exchange points and ATMs. Credit cards are possible only in the administrative centers (Mtskheta, Dusheti, Tianeti, Stepantsminda). Once you head into the countryside we advise you to bring cash with you when traveling to the region.
TELEPHONE SERVICEMost of the Mtskheta-Mtianeti region is covered through mobile network operators such as Magticom, Geocell and Beeline However, there is no communication in a certain part of the territory, we advise purchasing a SIM card before your trip, especially when traveling to mountains.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTYou can travel by public transport - marshrutkas, same as minivans that are the easiest way to get around the region, though taxis are just as good, if a little more expensive, for shorter trips. For popular routes, most services have a fixed schedule for departures which are often posted at the bus station, while other services leave when full.
