Gergeti Trinity Church is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Georgia and deservedly so – not only is the church itself interesting it also stands in a beautiful place with magnificent views.
The church is located in Kazbegi municipality, 1 km from the village of Gergeti, at 2200 meters above sea level.
The exact date of construction of the church is unknown, although it dates back to the XIV century. No information is preserved about its builders or construction either. Its name is determined by its location. The village of Gergeti was cultivated on the left bank of the river Tergi, and on the right side was the administrative center of the historic province Khevi - Stepantsminda. The church is built on the left side, in the area where the old settlement of Gergeti once stood. In 1966 the village of Gergeti joined the townlet Kazbegi, but the old name of the church remained unchanged and it is still called Gergeti Trinity Church.
There is already a road to the church, but it is also possible to walk there from the village of Gergeti. The distance is not long, and the walk takes about 30 minutes to 1 hour. Minibusses run from Didube bus station in the direction of Kazbegi.
